| Sree Venu Gopala Devaswom
Temple, Puarakkad, one of the oldest Gowda Saraswat Brahmin temples in Kerala , is
situated in Alleppey District, 17kms.away from Alleppey Town.
This Temple was built nearly 400 years ago. Temple has
a copper-roofed round 'Sreekovil' in which the principal deity is
installed. There is a three step 'Peedam'. On the first step at top is the
Venugopala with Lekshmi devi on the left and Bhoomi devi on the right side.
On the second step is a pair of sandals used by Ananda who installed the
deity. On the third step are the Utsava moorties and the Madanagopala. The
temple faces Eastwards and has a tile-roofed outer square temple 'Nalambalam'
surrounding a spacious inner lawn. There is a temple well inside the
Nalambalam. The water from this well is solely used for preparing 'Nivedyas
and Pooja purposes.
The idols of Garuda, Hanuman, Ganapathi, Mahalakshmi are the Secondary
deities installed inside the (Nalambalam). The shrines of Naga Kanya, Siva, Kaalabhairav and
Saint Kundala
Gosai are installed outside the inner temple. Saint Kundala Gosai known in local parlance as 'Jogi' attained samadhi in the Temple. |
